Are you Chosen? Part 1

“So the last will be first, and the first will be last. For many are called but few are chosen.” Matthew 20:16

I want you to consider the story of the creation of man in relation to the journey of Jesus. The Bible says we were created after God’s own image, and since our father is the king of leading by example (more on this later), we should understand that Jesus’ Walk should be viewed as a guide for chosen ones considering the fact that He is the Ultimate Chosen One. Many people consider themselves chosen without truly seeking Jesus’ Journey and Walk for reference or confirmation. Let’s deconstruct Jesus’ journey to help you determine if you are among the called or if you are among the chosen:

1.      Humble circumstances at birth: To recap, Jesus was born to a poor couple who were promised to one another but were not married yet. As if the stigma surrounding that wasn’t enough, He was then born in a barn and forced to leave His birth town after being sought for annihilation. Jesus. The King of Kings. The Son of the Creator Himself was born under these circumstances. This didn’t make Him any less chosen, however. In fact, these are the details often highlighted when considering the remarkability of His Divine Humility and His Glory.  Consider your circumstances at birth. Is there anything humbling about your story? Maybe you were born to a poor family, too. Maybe you faced trauma before even leaving the womb. Maybe you were adopted.  Maybe you were rejected. It’s been my experience that the more humbling your conception to birth story is the more likely your story or life’s journey will be used for a purpose greater than yourself. Remember, everything falls either underneath God’s Permissive Will/Providence or under His direct Command. If you are here under the circumstances of which you were born, it is for a reason.

2.      Life challenging trauma: Again, Jesus was sought for annihilation at birth. During His journey, the Pharisees sought to kill Him but couldn’t before the appointed time. So many figures in the Good Book faced life-challenging/threatening situations before they were moved forward in elevation. Moses had a story similar to Jesus where he faced potential annihilation shortly after birth to preface his story. Noah was forced to build a gargantuan-sized boat while collecting pairs of each animal species…or else. Abraham forced his wife to pose as his sister in fear of being neutralized before warring on behalf of his nephew. Esther was threatened, Elijah was threatened and depressed—the point is, if you look back on your life and see that you faced circumstances which either challenged/threatened your physical presence on this earth or made you seriously question your presence here on earth, it is likely you have been chosen to tell your story at an appointed hour. Maybe you almost drowned as a child. Maybe you had a near fatal accident. Maybe someone attempted after your life as well. Maybe you’ve faced depression so terrible that you considered the unthinkable. Whatever the case may be, you’re still here with divine reason despite assigned experiences meant to challenge your purpose. God is good.
